Reader, If thirty sales appointments popped onto your calendar right now, how would you feel? Would you regret putting on your tighty whities this morning... ...Perhaps you'd be excited, but nervous at the volume... ...Or maybe you'd let a wry smile crawl across your cheeks because you're ready to close some deals. I'm not asking you this question to be facetious. But because for 99% of those fortunate enough to lay eyes upon my writing — you'd likely think you'd be happy and excited. Yet when I put 30-odd qualified sales opps onto someone's calendar with some propa' advertising, reality hits harder than the imagination. Often they forget about how no shows are part of the game. Instead they take it personally. Irritated about how they've either wasted their time, or their money on a salesperson sitting there waiting for someone who never showed. Other times they freak out and tell me how this can't scale as their calendar keeps dinging with new appointments. Previous conversations where they tell me of their desires to hit £10m in revenue seem to be forgotten. And now they want to completely change their business model. And regularly, they struggle to admit they aren't quite as good at sales as they once thought. Whether that's closing the deals themselves, or managing a sales team. On one hand their ego can't take that they no longer close 80% of appointments that came from their network. On the other they can't accept their sales team are just glorified order takers as opposed to true salesmen. It's rare to come across a business owner who can handle such an influx of opportunity. We all think we can, until it happens. The same way we all think we have a plan, till we get punched in the face. It's why I'm selective about who I work with. It still surprises me how many businesses are ready to scale whenever I look under the hood.
